The ECU works to further and support equality and diversity for staff and students in higher education across all four nations of the UK, and in colleges in Scotland.
ECU provides expertise, research and advice to advance equality and diversity in universities and colleges, promoting good practice case studies, guides and events for the sector as well as charter marks for institutions. This national watchdog publishes guidance and research on equal rights and implementing your duties under the Equality Act 2010, including FAQ’s and good practice on the nine protected characteristics and on providing fair services as well as fair employment. The Commission has legal powers to investigate complaints and impose sanctions on organisations who breach equality and human rights laws.
